Last night, the 52nd International Emmy Awards showcased the power of storytelling across borders, with winners hailing from Argentina, Thailand, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Mexico, Poland, Spain, and the UK. Here are some standout moments:

🎭 Best Comedy: División Palermo (Argentina) - A quirky patrol squad tackling more than just crime, produced by K&S Films for Netflix.
🍳 Best Actress: Thailand’s Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying for Hunger (Netflix), a gripping street-food drama.
🎥 Best TV Movie/Miniseries: Liebes Kind (Dear Child, Germany) - A haunting tale of survival from Constantin Television for Netflix.
🍷 Best Drama Series: Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God) - A French-Japanese dive into wine and legacy, co-produced by France Télévisions and Hulu Japan.
👨‍🦳 Best Actor: Timothy Spall (The Sixth Commandment, UK) - A stellar performance in BBC One’s true crime drama.

The night also honored legends:
🏆 David E Kelley received the Founders Emmy for his iconic work (Ally McBeal, Big Little Lies).
🏆 Sidonie Dumas, CEO of Gaumont (Lupin), was presented the Directorate Award by actor Omar Sy.

Writing, like making TV shows or creating content,

Writing, like making TV shows or creating content, is all about finding an audience. But there’s a key difference: I’m not writing fiction. I’m sharing my personal observations, advice, and thoughts—my perspective, shaped by years of working in an industry I love. With my experience, I feel I can humbly call myself an expert, at least in terms of time served.

However, for me, writing is deeply personal because of my dyslexia. Filling out forms by hand—at a bank, a hotel, or immigration—gives me cold sweats. Those blank boxes for replies? They can make me feel physically ill, knowing my illegible handwriting, poor spelling, or difficulty forming words might be how I am judged.

In my professional life, I’m often called upon to write edit notes on systems without spell check. I’ve relied on trusted friends and colleagues to decipher my jumbled thoughts and turn them into actionable changes. When they’re unavailable, I have to use a long, painstaking cut-and-paste system to piece things together. It’s a process I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

That’s why seeing my written words resonate with so many people—generating impressions, followers, and new contacts—means so much to me. It speaks to the child in me, who never thought this would be possible.

To anyone with dyslexia: I encourage you to find your voice in writing, no matter the struggle. What matters most is the thinking behind your words—your ideas, concepts, and opinions. To all friends and colleagues celebrating Diwali have a great day.

Thank you, Kate Griggs, for commissioning this important study. It feels especially relevant given the ongoing crisis in the freelance TV production space, where we are witnessing mass unemployment and real hardship. Many freelancers are now considering leaving the sector, viewing it as the only logical step due to the current challenges. And one of the most often asked questions is “where do I start with transferable skills?” There are very few training or retraining opportunities for self employed freelancers.

This situation highlights two key points: first, our industry has a high proportion of dyslexic and neurodivergent thinkers; second, the TV production world is renowned for its problem solvers.

TV production demands the ability to react swiftly and creatively under pressure—whether it’s dealing with a key cast member falling ill during production, shifting an entire day’s filming due to sudden rain, losing power to an outside broadcast unit as the late Queen arrives for a Royal Variety Performance, or managing a bomb scare during a live transmission of This Morning.

And in this industry, it’s not just dyslexia that enhances problem-solving abilities—it’s the nature of our work. So, to my fellow freelancers, from audio to wardrobe: when applying for jobs, make “problem-solving” a headline skill on your CV, and include three specific examples of when you demonstrated it. Every seasoned TV professional I know has at least three compelling stories that showcase their ability to solve problems under pressure.

Thank you to my fellow dyslexics for shining a light on this critical skill that our industry needs—and one that we have in abundance!

Trees 🌴 walking to my meetings waiting at the intersection, the sun burns my forehead, at 32 Degrees the heat makes me slightly breathless and the sweat drips to the small of my back from contact with my backpack. Then I walk to the shade of the trees. The cooling effect is remarkable, but not as dramatic as the calming of the soul, even the sounds of the district seem to quieten, my breathing slows and deepens. Before once again in the open the unrelenting heat and suns’ radiation beat down on my head. Let’s plant as many trees as we can if all 7 billion of us planted just one our children may have a chance.

A new project, I love it when science fiction beco

A new project, I love it when science fiction becomes fact. It gives me a real wow moment, as a child “tomorrow’s world” was my all time favourite show. It inspired I life long interest in philosophy, physics and creativity, how many tv shows or tictok videos do that for kids today? This is my only recourse, to use social media to try and fuel that same fire. If just one person finds this, and future posts interesting and it fires an interest, or even just a google search for further information, I’d be over the moon.
